Forests for the future
AbitibiBowater is committed to fostering the long-term well-being of the forests we manage for future generations through sustainable forest management and continual improvement of our forestry practices. We strive to balance ecological, social and economic forest values.
To assure our customers, our employees and the public of these commitments, we subscribe to credible and globally recognized sustainable forest management standards and certify our adherence to these standards through independent auditing.
In addition to sustainable forest management and chain of custody certification, we take into account many other forest values in our forest management planning—such as cultural and social interests, soil and water conservation, wildlife habitat and biological diversity. We support research and environmental initiatives with research partners and other key stakeholders aimed at improving our knowledge and practices in conservation and sustainable forest management. These initiatives are supported by sound science, and include High Conservation Value Forest analysis, Cumberland Plateau Cove and Gulf studies and caribou research.
